You must let us know about any changes to your travel plans or your
medical condition before you travel. This includes any changes to your medication (dosage or type) or
any changes to treatment. Our goal is to always ensure you are covered so it is always best to call, let
us know what has changes and we will let you know your options.
Call the claims department BEFORE seeking treatment. Keep your “ID
Wallet Card” handy while you travel. If you have a medical emergency, call the Insurer’s Claims
Assistance phone number shown on the card or in your policy wording before seeking treatment.
Claims Assistance Departments are open 24-hours per day. In the event your medical emergency does
not allow you to call in advance, someone must call on your behalf as soon as possible. It is important
to call within 24-hours as the insurance company has the right to reduce coverage since they have
preferred arrangements with certain hospitals and medical facilities.
You may be eligible for a partial refund. Most Insurers will require proof of your
return to Ontario. Call us on the day you are back and leave a voice message if the office is closed.
The Insurer will require proof of your early return. We suggest you make a purchase on the same credit
card you used to purchase your insurance. Some insurers may require this receipt as proof you are
back in Ontario. If a receipt is requested, we recommend you take a picture with your cell phone and
email it to info@getawayinsured.ca.
If you need to extend your trip, please call us when you know
you are staying longer and prior to your coverage expiry date. If our office is close, please call the
Insurer's Claims Assistance number shown on your travel insurance wallet card or on the policy
wording and let them know you need an extension. If you already submitted a claim, extensions are at
the discretion of the insurer.
Keep or submit your Confirmation or Policy
Certificate that shows your name, premium paid, travel dates, etc. and you can claim it on your tax
return as a medical expense. A special tax receipt is not required.
